Namibian swimmers Gideon Nasilowski and Karlien Coleman were disqualified for the same technical infringement in their respective races on Tuesday night. Nasilowski’s 3 minutes and 43,88 seconds eighth place finish in the men’s 50m breaststroke S4 final was struck from the register due to a faulty kicking technique.

Coleman was disqualified for the same offence in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB6 final.

The rule breach, which was detected during the event’s review, was not deliberate, Nasilowski said. He added that he was not disappointed despite Tuesday’s events.

“I can’t say that I am (disappointed) because I fought with heart and pride for my country and this is a dream that came true,” said Nasilowski, who, despite finishing last, received a hearty applause from the Parc Jean-Drapeau crowd.

Moises Garcia Fuente edged Ricardo Ten of Spain to claim Columbia’s first gold of the competition with a time of 1:36,91. Greece‘s Antonios Tsapatakis finished in the bronze medal position.

Yesterday, Coleman finished last in a women’s 50m freestyle S6 heat, clocking 58,17 seconds, which leaves her 21,94 seconds behind race winner Germany‘s Tanja Groepper.

Coleman will next compete in the women’s 100m freestyle S6 event on Sunday, while Nasilowski is scheduled to swim in the men’s 100m freestyle S4 today before contesting the men’s 50m breaststroke SB3 on Sunday.

“Our spirit is unbreakable. We will work harder and learn from our mistakes. We are Para-swimming Namibia. We fight the fight and we are proud to represent, so bring it on world. We can’t wait for the nest curve ball that you will throw at us,” said Nasilowski.
