The ever improving Myles Brown swam to new levels internationally by shattering another African and South African record on the second day of the Swimming World Cup in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Thursday evening.

Brown took to the water in the men’s 1500m freestyle to challenge Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri. It was only in the final 200 metres that the Italian managed to edge ahead and win in 14 minutes, 27.65 seconds (14:27,65) with the Durbanite clocking an amazing 14:30,54 to slice eight point five seconds off the Africa and South African record set by Ryk Neethling in 2000.

At the 800m mark, Brown turned in a fast 7:44,41 to almost erase the only short course record still held by Neethling of 7:44,10.

After a two-race rest, Brown stood up and tackled the men’s 200m freestyle and finished fifth in a superb 1:43,91. The event was won by France’s Yannick Agnel in 1:42,33.

Chad le Clos then made it a second gold in the men’s 100m butterfly after his world-record swim on Wednesday night, this time coming from behind as he did in Barcelona last week.

On the final length, Le Clos gave his familiar side look as he took a breath and put his head down for the final five strokes to pull off the victory in 49,08 seconds, beating Steffen Diebler (Germany) in 49,32sec and Thomas Shields (USA) in 49,38sec.

Veteran swimmer Roland Schoeman ended the South African challenge for the evening in the men’s 50m freestyle with a close result in fourth place, clocking 21,03 seconds.

The race was won by Vladimir Morozov (Russia) in 20,66sec with James Magnusson (Australia) second in 20,98sec and George Bovell (Trinidad) third in 21,00sec.

Darian Townsend was forced to withdraw after suffering a stomach bug and hoped to recover by the weekend with the second World Cup event moving on to Berlin starting Saturday
