China´s most difficult dive

BCN 2013 China Dive 1

China has come to the 15th FINA World Championships with their best team of divers in order to try and repeat the great feat they achieved in Shanghai:  winning the 10 diving events. The rest of the teams will try to make it as difficult as possible, tough.

Since the beginning of the diving events in the Piscina Municipal de Monjuïc, China has won gold in five out of the six events held so far. The 3m and 10m finals are still to come, but everything indicates that they will remain on top of the podium.

The 10m springboard synchro event was an exception in their golden track record, though. Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan were third in this test, 15.90 points behind the German champions. Their coach Zhao Wenjin refered to it as “our own mistake”, one which prevented them from catching up with the Germans and Russians, two of their main rivals in Barcelona 2013. “As for the 3m synchro springboard, the errors where smaller and that helped us clinch gold again”, continues the coach. Qin Kai and He Chong weren’t as positive though, and claimed not to be “satisfied with their performance” after the event.

Italy have confirmed their selves as one of the main contenders in women’s diving in this 15th FINA World Championships, claiming two silver medals and one gold so far.

The current challenge of the Chinese team is “to experiment with new difficulties, not repeat the same mistakes and train hard” commented Wenjin Zhao and he recognises that they are used to winning the gold and any different result will be surprising to them.

For those spectators who think that there will not be any more surprises, the Chinese team warns that “we still haven’t showed the best that we have” and the rest of the teams will surely be doing the same at the next individual finals.

In the official FINA Medal Table, since China first competed in the World Championships they have won a total of 45 golds, 27 silvers and 11 bronze
