Rebecca Adlington cuts back on the carbs

Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington says she piled on the pounds after retiring from competitive swimming earlier this year.

Rebecca, 24, says she put on 10lb after eating the same calories she used to but without the compensatory exercise.

Now she’s dieting for her wedding to fellow swimmer Harry Needs, 21, next year.

“I used to eat six Weetabix, four sandwiches and a huge bowl of pasta at lunch and at night,” says Rebecca.

“I would eat big portions of lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, risotto and pies. When I retired my body was still craving the food. Plus I started to indulge a lot more because I hadn’t been able to have fizzy pop, takeaways or puddings.

“Suddenly I couldn’t do up the zip on my jeans. I’m never going to be stick thin but I felt disgusting. It took me a while to realise I didn’t need to  eat so much!” she tells Woman magazine.

“Now I make sure I exercise four times a week. As a woman, it’s hard. You can put on weight like lightning while losing weight happens slowly. I feel better now. I’m not craving as much food.”
