USA Swimming National Championships begin in Indianapolis
“This is far and away the biggest meet in the U.S. this year. It’s the qualifier for our World Championships team that will compete in Barcelona next month. This has been the focus for these athletes for quite a while and this is what they’ve really been training for,” said John Martin with USA Swimming.
Fans can come to the Natatorium on IUPUI’s campus and buy tickets for sessions beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. and running through Saturday. There is a Fan Expo in the building where vendors will sell apparel and merchandise and where some of the big names in swimming will interact with fans.
“Every day from about 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., we’re going to have about 20 different Olympians and athletes come and sign autographs,” said Matt Farrell, chief marketing officer for USA Swimming.
“Our sport is growing exponentially and we’re seeing that in a way we’ve never seen before in our sport. We have stars that people recognize on a daily basis with reality TV, golf show and Sullivan Award winners so for our sport, we’ve never been in such a great spot,” said Frank Busch, director of the USA National Team.
