Top qualifier China advance to the men’s 10m platform and women’s 3m springboard finals after finishing first in both events on the opening day of San Juan’s Diving Grand Prix, organised from May 16-19.

Huo Liang (Group A) and Jiang Yang (Group B) finished 1-2 in the 10m platform with 526.75 and 489.75 points, respectively. Cristian Arayon (COL, 406.55 points) and Robert Paez (VEN, 404.15 points) from semi final A and Philippe Gagne (CAN, 389.00 points) and David Dinsmore (USA, 383.50 points) from semi final B also made it to the men’s 10m platform final.

The big surprise on day 1 was the elimination from the women’s 3m springboard of one of China’s two divers competing in the event. Jiao Liu was bested by Dutch diver Celine Van Duijn, who qualified for the event along with teammate Inge Jansen. Canadians Aimee Harrison and Emma Friesen, and Qu Lin from China, also qualified for the women’s 3m springboard final.

The finals for both events will be held on Saturday, May 18.
