Admittedly, most of us will never be in a position to choose between climbing Everest and swimming the English Channel, but the question is enough to ignite the natural rivalry between land and water athletes.

In fact, if you want to bring your dinner party or water cooler conversation up a notch, throw this question out to the group and see who puts together the best argument.

Even the British public got in on the debate. Here’s what they said when asked which endeavour was the hardest.

Before you take sides, be sure to read the info gathered by the gang from the Open Water Swimming website.

Admittedly they have their own bias, but it’s worth keeping in mind that only 811 individuals have successfully crossed the English Channel compared to the 3,100+ people who have reached the summit of Everest.

So go ahead and choose sides, but before you do, ask yourself this – Everest or the English Channel, which one would you have a better chance at completing?
