Swimmers continue good form at Kiwi national champs

March 19, 2013

Lauren Boyle 12

Another day, another world championship qualifying mark for Kiwi swimmer Lauren Boyle.

She’s slipped inside the A standard in winning the 200m freestyle at the national championships in Auckland to go with her success in the 400m and 1500m.

Boyle still has the 800m freestyle heats to come this morning and is tossing up an appearance in the 100m on Thursday.

“I really wanted to practice going hard every single day and asking my body to do something that I’m not really used to…in the past I’ve had a bit of trouble backing up my races really well.”

Glenn Snyders added the 50m breaststroke to his 100m mark on the opening day and says it was a good swim.

“Pretty happy. I think it’s about the second or third fastest time so I’m happy.”

Paralympic swimmers Sophie Pascoe and Mary Fisher have broken their old marks which stood for around nine hours in the 50m butterfly.

Pascoe says it’s important for her to back up 2012.

“That’s the way it has to be. I’ve performed in London and there’s no falling back, that’s the pressure of myself as well. I can’t let 2013 be a year of doing nothing. I’ve got to be able to perform and be back on top of the world.”
