GOLDEN GIRL: Hannah Miley

Hannah Miley cemented her place as Britain’s leading lady in the 400m individual medley by storming to gold at the British Gas International Meet last night.

The Swindon-born flyer triumphed in typical fashion, starting slowly over the first 50m before moving her way up to fourth after the butterfly.

Miley then stormed ahead over her favoured discipline of breaststroke and remained in control on the final freestyle leg to win in a time of 4:35.57 – just 1.4 seconds slower than her world silver medal pace in Shanghai last year – with Aimee Willmott second (4:38.94) and Keri-Anne Payne third (4:42.85).

Miley followed that up with seventh in the 200m freestyle – a race containing six British Olympians.

The Scot was never in contention, finishing in a time of 2:02.02, some way off the pace of winner Femke Heem in 1:58.49, with Rebecca Turner second (1:58.72) and Ellie Faulkner third (1:59.42).
