Australia’s shamed relay swim team are set to learn their fate in meetings next week with swimming’s Integrity Panel and an investigator from the Australian Olympic Committee.

The group has been tasked with getting to the bottom of the men’s bonding session misbehaviour.

Relay team members James Magnussen, Eamon Sullivan, James Roberts, Matt Targett, Cameron McEvoy and Tommaso D’Orsogna received official notices from the AOC last week asking them to respond to their admission of “childish behaviour” and a Stilnox initiation at a staging camp before the London Games.

Roberts, who has not admitted to taking the banned sleeping drug, still received a letter from the AOC in relation to his participation in a “bonding session”.

The swimmers had until Thursday this week to respond to the AOC letter and provide reasons why they should not be punished for breaching the team agreement for use of a banned drug.

The AOC yesterday appointed Bret Walker SC to investigate the swimmers’ behaviour, including the “inappropriate behaviour” allegations made by Jade Neilsen against the relay men that were revealed by The Courier-Mail.

It is understood swimmers and coaches will be interviewed by the AOC investigator despite claims from the men during their press conference apology that they never entered a female’s hotel room during their bonding session.

“The AOC has appointed Bret Walker SC to investigate issues arising from the swimming reviews, in particular the use of Stilnox by members of the 2012 Australian Olympic Team,” the AOC said in a statement.

The Courier-Mail understands the swimmers were told Swimming Australia’s Integrity Panel will convene next week to address the team’s behavioural matters.
